Codex: First Prototype of the Courier Tablet?
Codex might be the first glimpse of a working Courier-like prototype. Although it's bulky and unrefined, it proves the concept is workable. Another plus to the Codex is that it actually exists.
Dual screens are oriented automatically by sensors to provide the correct configuration based on the activity. The hinge in the center allows Codex to close, stand upright, and open in a variety of positions. Two people could use the device simultaneously.
Screens on the Codex are actually removable and work independent of the chassis. The video illustrates a user interface that looks different from the Courier concepts we've seen, however the functionality is similar.
Handwritten notes are entered with a stylus and content can be clipped from a web browser on one side directly into the adjacent screen.
Setting up the Codex in a laptop "posture" allows the user to control a presentation from the bottom screen and use the image from the top screen to project in front of the audience. Everything is organized by a custom, visual table of contents.
From the video:
The facile transitions between usage contexts via sensed postures enable a rich set of possibilities without undue burden to the user.
Now if they can cram that functionality into a device as slim as the Courier, it will unburden the user even more.
